Home Away from Home
12pm-12:45pm

Choosing home based childcare as an alternative to centre-based childcare. Neuroscience talks about the importance of connection and being in relationship with the child to establish a strong connection. Keeping our babies connected. In a childcare centre where adult to child ratios could be 1-4 or 1-5 how then can an adult consistently maintain that connection? We will discuss the science, look at early brain development and give parents an alternative look at childcare options.

How to Talk to Babies and Toddlers to Enhance Language Skills
1pm-1:45pm

Sharon Patterson, sister of infant researcher Robert Titzer and 18-year employee of Infant Learning, will talk briefly about the huge benefits of providing better language environments for infants and toddlers. Most of the presentation will be focused on giving parents practical tips that have been shown to help babies learn additional language skills. This is important because recent research shows that the early language environment has lasting effects on later language abilities and later reading scores. In addition, research from Stanford University found that babies who are in better language environments think at faster speeds than babies who are in less stimulating language environments. Sharon will also speak on the history and origin of the Your Baby Can products.
