The Commerce Commission is New Zealand’s competition, consumer and regulatory agency.
We are responsible for enforcing laws relating to competition, fair trading, and consumer credit contracts, and have regulatory responsibilities in the electricity lines, gas pipelines, telecommunications, dairy and airport sectors.
Our overarching goal is to make New Zealanders better off. We aim to do this by playing our part in ensuring markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.
Our vision is that New Zealanders are better off. To achieve our vision we have two strategic objectives:
- Markets work well
- Consumers and businesses are confident market participants.
These are supported by three key strategies:
- We will seize opportunities to have the greatest impact
- We will protect, inform and empower consumers and businesses
- We will be trusted, influential and high performing
